"ther must be a better song to sing."

This is a quote from the screenplay Educating Rita from the book by Liverpudlian. Willie Russell.
It is a quote from the film's central character Rita, who is alluding to the fact that there must be somethig more in life for her. She leads a mundane, monotonous life as a hairdresser, but aspires to be much more. As a working class woman she does not fit the role of the archetypal student in het high heels and big hair. However, she soon realises how enriching and rewarding literature can be. Her tutor is reluctant at first but soon views her as a breath of fresh air, and actually falls in love with her. She soon interacts with other students and goes off to summer camp, where she reads the worws of the great poets. At this point her tutor played by Michael Caine, realises that he can teach her no more and that Rita has flourished and blossomed into a new, broadminded and educated woman.

I could apply this comment directly to my aunt, who after travelling and not really applying herself to anythig specifically, undertook an Open University Degree in English Literature, progressively devouring the classics, until she became a Head Mistress in her 40's.

After various problems I have experienced throughout my life, the various trial and tribulations e.t.c., I now find myself in the position whereby I can pusue my passion for languages and use this course of study in Languages, Arts and Social Sciences, as a springboard to University. I can empathise with Rita in this sense, coming from a working class background where some people think you are "snob" if you attend college.
